What is weld overlay?

Weld overlay is a welding process that provides protection for products such as pipelines,valves,flanges and fabrications by welding a corrosion resistant protective layer to areas at risk of corrosion and wear.

Weld overlay is also known as cladding,hard facing,weld cladding or weld overlay cladding.

Weld overlay can be applied to many components ranging from pipes,pipe fittings,flanges,valves and fabrication.And it is most commonly used within the oil and gas industry.

Weld overlay was used in API 5L,API 5LC,API 5LD,ASME B31.3, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8. standard,and so on.

How does welding differ from weld overlay?
